When Freddie discovered that building D residents had to be moved to the school because they had no heat he knew his help would be needed. Freddie cleared sidewalks and pathways for his neighbors. Vaslov gave Freddie some special snow shoes to go with his Zapato Power. The next day the town had been snowed in. Not only that, the snow evaporated with each step he took. The snow flew up around him and almost made him invisible. It was predicted there would be at least two feet.įreddie tried out his Zapato Power on the way home. So much so, school was closed in preparation of the big storm heading their way. Freddie liked to use his shoes for hero stuff but today it started to snow. With the press of a button on his Zapato Power wristband, Freddie’s shoes let out a puff of smoke and he can woosh and bounce as high as a basketball and he could run faster than a train. He had given Freddie a very special pair of shoes to test. Wouldn’t it be cool to have a pair of shoes that let you zip around and do amazing things, just like a superhero? Freddie Ramos does know because he has Zapato Power.įreddie is a very special kid. Still, he was eager to start the next book right away! I guess this was to spare the betrayal of making one of the known characters into a thief, but my son and I both felt it was a bit anti-climactic.

My son was very invested in finding out the thief, so it was a bit disappointing when there ended up not being any actual clues to put together - the thief was a nameless, faceless person who hadn't made an appearance before that point. I thought Jules might give her some nuance after something happens that puts her in a sympathetic position, but again there was just a minor nod to changed behavior at the end. Erika, the bully from the previous book, also has a central role, and she apparently hasn't changed her ways at all. We get a real-life challenge (the heat goes out in a building) and a high-stakes mystery (who is stealing purses?). In this case, he gets special snowshoes that he can strap to his purple zapatos so that it clears the snow when he runs 90 mph. Jules has managed to add a new, fun twist with each book and raise the stakes on Freddie's heroism.
